On the morning of August 13th, I had an 8:00 AM tee time at a place every Korean golfer dreams of visiting at least once in their lifetime: Anyang Country Club.
Operated by Samsung, Anyang CC is notoriously exclusive. It is so difficult to access that even top executives rarely get the chance to play here. Playing a round here is a bucket-list item for a lifetime, and I was fortunate enough to receive an unexpected invitation.
Located right in the Anyang and Gunpo area, the drive from Seoul was remarkably short and convenient.
A Walking Tradition
Anyang CC has a rare feature that sets it apart from almost every other modern Korean golf course: there are no motorized golf carts.
Instead, you walk all 18 holes. The club assigns two caddies to your group, who walk alongside you, carrying bags and managing the course. Walking through the quiet fairways gives the entire round a traditional, unhurried feel that is hard to find anywhere else in the country today.
Beyond the Hype
Usually, when you go somewhere with sky-high expectations, it is easy to feel a little let down. But Anyang exceeded every single expectation I had.
The service from the moment I arrived at the sleek, modern clubhouse was flawless. The course condition was pristine, but what truly blew me away was the landscaping. The manicured trees and lush green turf look incredible under a clear blue sky. In my opinion, it is easily the most beautiful golf course in Korea.
Walking off the 18th green, my only thought was simple: I wonder if I will ever be lucky enough to play here again.
