I recently had the chance to play Songchu Country Club, an exclusive private course nestled in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province. Because of its strict membership structure, tee times here are notoriously difficult to secure. When an opening pops up, my advice is simple: drop everything, ask questions later, and just join the group.

The moment you arrive, the pristine condition of the property jumps out at you. The modern, sweeping clubhouse looks out over lush, emerald turf framed by dense forest and serene water features. Every inch of the course is meticulously maintained, but its true reputation lies in the greens.

Pristine Fairways and Lightning-Fast Greens

Songchu CC is famous among local golfers for keeping its green speeds at a minimum of 3.0 on the Stimpmeter. Combined with dramatic undulations and significant elevation changes, putting here is a high-wire act.

The layout itself is engaging and dynamic. Tee to green, the course isn't overwhelmingly difficult, offering fair landing areas and rewarding smart ball-striking. However, everything changes the moment you approach the putting surface. The complexes around the greens are remarkably tough. A slightly misplaced approach shot can easily leave you with an impossible up-and-down or a treacherous downhill putt that barely stops.

Strategic planning is everything at Songchu. You cannot simply fire at pins; you have to carefully calculate where to leave your ball on the green to avoid brutal three-putts. It is a fantastic test of touch and course management, set against a peaceful, picture-perfect backdrop. If you ever get the chance to grab a cancellation or receive an invitation here, jump on it immediately.
